Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Tonto'

Foliage Deciduous
Form Round
Mature Size 3 x 3m
Family Lythraceae
Crepe Myrtle (fuchsia red)

This small deciduous tree produces a spectacular display of vibrant reddish-dark-pink flowers. The clusters of flowers appear over a long period from late summer through until mid-Autumn. It has a beautiful growth habit with dark green leaves which offer further interest after the flowering period when they change to orange before falling. Bark is a rich, brown colour which reveals a lighter coloured underbark, creating a mottled effect as the tree matures. We grow this tree with a single leader.

With good autumn colour and long summer flowering, this variety makes a great specimen tree for the small garden or landscape. Works well in streetscapes and is a clever choice for space-limited landscapes. Seasonal beauty with smooth winter limbs and summer flower bracts. Relatively-hardy, this variety is resistant to powdery mildew and will tolerate periods of dryness once established.

Prefers well drained humus rich soil in a full sun position. Can tolerate most conditions but moisture is preferred in dry periods when young.
