Chinese Parasol Tree Native to Asia, this is a deciduous tree with large maple-like shaped leaves that are a glossy green turning yellow in autumn. Bark is grey and smooth. Panicles of small yellow-green bell shapes flowers in spring produce pretty paper-like fruits that contain seed. Growing to 15 or so metres, this is an impressive feature trees for medium to large gardens. Prefers full sun to part shade and a position sheltered from strong winds. Dislikes frost, so this variety needs to be planted in a warmer climate or a protected position in gardens with a temperate climate. It will grow in an open aspect and tolerate a range of different soils. |
