A Native Flavour at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show

Along with fabulous designs and an abundance of ornamental colour, we noticed there was a greater call for natives this year at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

It's a flurry of activity this time of year when landscapers, landscape designers, growers and suppliers of green life all verge into one place with the aim of educating the general public on the value & beauty of green spaces.

As is the case with previous years, we were asked to supply a number of our trees into many beautiful sites on display.  Each year what is requested by our landscaping partners dances to a different theme and this year we have found Australian natives to be very popular.

Showcased here is Waterhousea floribunda 'Whisper' in MUSA Landscape Architect's Gold Winning garden called 'Journey'; a design supporting mental health in collaboration with Beyond Blue.

In the same outstanding garden Corymbia maculata (Spotted Gum) is spotted (pardon the pun) through the design. Perfect kangaroo sculpture to complement the native theme.

Waterhousea floribunda 'Whisper' line the boundary of MUSA Landscape Architect's Gold Winning garden called 'Journey'. Tranquil greys, blueish-greens and greenish-greys definitely calm the eye.

Chinese Tallowood (Sapium sebiferum) beautifully flag the sculptured centerpiece on Alex Koskiniotis' Achievable Garden called 'Cascade'.

The unique shape of the trunk on this Brachychiton rupestris moves to frame the deck on this garden called 'Anthropogenic Future' designed by Anthony Sharples & Alistair Kirkpatrick. This garden is created from 80% recycled and repurposed materials.

Flip to the other side of the exhibit and the beautiful greyish-green tones of Eucalyptus polyanthemus (Red Box) is used as the backdrop to this future look at recycled materials.

Congratulations to all participants in the Show Gardens, Boutique Gardens and Avenue of Achievable Gardens. Speciality Trees is once again honoured to be involved in the supply of our premium-quality trees in a number of outstanding exhibition gardens.
